Interview Bareng A TRAIL OF HORROR ( Halle, Belgium )

Answered by stephane ( vocal )

In the late summer of 2005, A Trail Of Horror rose to its feet. Originally created by Bart & Cé. (ex members of Earection, Time Out RIP), They went looking for fresh meat to complete their lineup. Levy joined the bunch to play the drums and Sebbe joined for vocals. The search for a second guitar player ended with Robin, who also had experience in other bands ( Fuzzgun, Reign Of Terror RIP). After a while we agreed on the fact to bring in Stephane ( Youth Enrage RIP) as a second vocalist to bring some new dimensions into our sound. The drive in the band was strong enough to hold on so we decided to hit the studio (Noisegate) where we recorded our five track demo. We released our material in a split CD along with The End Of All Reason. After having played some shows, Sebbe decided to quit the band due to some personal reasons. We’d like to thank him for the great moments and his dedication. We are influenced by a lot of bands most of the time, and so we try to make some unique, monsterous metalcore/deathcore, with horrifying mosh riffs. Our music has quite evolved since the recording of our demo. We recently hit the studio again (studio LeMith) to record our EP "A Trail Of Horror". At the beginning of 2008 we singed a record deal with the Swedish label "Dead Vibrations Indsutry" who will release our EP. We are always in search of some hot shows, so if you’re interested, book us right away. And last but not least, we would like to take the time to thank all of the fans, the people who book our shows, and the other bands we share the stage with. Without you we would still be playing in an empty garage. We are A Trail Of Horror.

Hi! Up till quite recently I didn't know A TRAIL OF HORROR. Because there might be quite a few people out there not yet familiar with the band, I think giving you an opportunity to introduce yourselves is an appropriate way to start this interview. So please feel free to give us an introduction to A TRAIL OF HORROR. How old were you when you first got into extreme metal?
Hi, I'm Stephane, the vocalist of ATOH, a Belgian deathcore band. Some of us grew up with only but deathmetal in their ears. Other ones (like me) grew into the music style a bit later. The most of us started the hardcore style with the oldskool hardcore and even played in this kind of bands. Later on we all evolved to the harder and more intense style of hardcore, or you could even call i deathmetal if you want... hahaha I think most of us started to listen to extreme metal when we were around 15-16 years old (some even younger)

Explain the name A TRAIL OF HORROR ? I Feel The Name Is More Awesome For The Deathcore Band, are you Deal with Me?
To be honnest we had a tough time finding a name for our band that suited to our music. We came to the name A Trail Of Horror as it describes what we try to distribute with our music, with our songs we basicly want to spread a trail of horror upon the world ;). It's even more scary if our riffs and lyrics stay stuck in your head...

Tell us about yourselves, what are you like outside of A TRAIL OF HORROR? You look like a cool bunch of guys to hang out with!
We spend most of the time hanging around together at parties, bars, concerts,... And yeah we have lots of fun together!!! We like to build some big parties (and as you know drinking is mostly a part of that...). We try to enjoy every single second!!!

You guys involved in any other projects or bands we would want to know about?
At the moment we are all only involved in ATOH. All of us played in other bands before this band, but these projects all ended.

You are from Halle, Belgium. Cool. My good friends in "Horrid" are from Belgium as well and you've played shows with them as well as a just recent show . are you Know name Deformity, Emeth or Other ? How was A TRAIL OF HORROR the show?
Yeah we all know eachother from former bands and live in the same town, what's really great to hang out together. The band Emeth i actualy know. But we've never played with these bands.

Who, or what, are your biggest influences when it comes to writing music? What are your influences? try to make some unique, monsterous metalcore/deathcoreThe Biggest Inspiration for A TRAIL OF HORROR Musickal??
To be honnest we all listen to a lot of bands. Our taste in music vary very often what makes it possible to mix a lot of styles into our music. We try to form our own kind of style as we try to create songs you could recognise us from. We spend a lot of time working and improving our new songs.

" Split Demo 2006. " together The End of All Reason is your First Worldwide stuff in 2006. Since I haven't heard the first one (yet), could you tell me a bit about you debut album and the way it differs from " Split Demo 2006. " ?
It is very different to the first demo we released with TEOAR. I think we evolve every time we write new songs. As every band knows the first songs you ever wrote with a band are a lot different with the style you play three years later...:)

What responses did you get from the people, the scene and the zines in the Belgium and the rest of the world on your previous releases?
We had some really great reactions on our last release. People seemed to like it, what makes us even more happy to play in ATOH. It gave us a great feeling when we saw people singing along with us during gigs and stuff!

Could you tell me a bit more about that and, in general, could you name a few bands, and perhaps some non-musical things (e.g. movies, books, etc) which form your main influences?
We love all stuff related to 80's Horror. We are all fan of horrormovies and a lot of deathcore bands like Whitechapel, Aborted, The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence,... The lyrics of our last release can prove this dedication to horror. Our lyrics mostly talk about things you'd rather not like to read or hear hahaha ;)

The songs on " Split Demo 2006. " Together The End of All Reason are quite long and complex. Could you explain to me how the actual songwriting process takes place within A TRAIL OF HORROR? are you know as well some guys from The End of All Reason?
The End Of All Reason are really good friends of ours. We played a lot of gigs together! Songwriting is really complex in our band and it takes a lot of time until we're happy with the final result of a song. We sit together and talk about the things we would like in a song, than we try out a million of things until we finaly find the riffs that we are all happy about. Once the main song is made we still work in details to creat a song that we are truely happy about.

Now A TRAIL OF HORROR has Sign Up with Swedish label Dead Vibrations Indsutry ? when You Meet Them Right Now??
We met DVI on the internet and started to exchange some information with them. They wanted to work with us for the last release and we were really happy about this! It was really amazing we could release our work on this label, that is really good.

Name 4 bands you would love to share the stage with and Name 3 bands that you dislike
I'll start with the band I dislike, because there'e really no band i could name for this. I respect every single band and i enjoy playing with each band. Bands I would like to share the stage with are all the bands that exist!!! I'm serious about this hahaha , I would like to meet every band we could. If i really have to name four of my favourite bands it would be Despised Icon, Suicide Silence, Parkway Drive, The Black Dahlia Murder and Aborted.

Who in the band writes your music? And Name one song you love playing live? Why? And What was the first concert you went to as a fan?
The music is basicly written by Bart, our guitar player, and Levy, our drummer, helps him a lot with it. The lyrics are basicly written by me, and Levy also helps me from time to time. The song i prefer to play is one of our new ones (one that is not known yet) called "Innocence is bliss". I enjoy playing it because i go totaly crazy on this one. I love to sing it and to see the people mosh the fuck out of their bodies on this song. The first concert i ever went was the Eastpak Resistance tour with Biohazard, Hatebreed,...

Who manages the band, who does all the marketing, promoting and who is a lazy bastard?
I'm actualy the guys who manages all the things, i do the bookings, promotions, ... But i wouldn't call the other ones lazy because of that. I love doing these things for the band.

What is the funniest thing the happened to you while performing? (either to the band or to a band member) Were is the bands favorite place to play?
The funniest thing that happened was me getting a guitar smashed into my face at the begining of the set. I was not so pleasant to feel but it was not on purpose and we all had a good laugh about it. We love to play at every place. Especialy Sint Niklaas (Belgium) and in Spain.

Tell us of your most memorable show. What bands were playing and why was it memorable for you?
That would definitely be the gigs in Spain we did on tour with The Band Apart and Dead Romeon, both bands from Spain. And hear in Belgium it was definitely Sickness Fest with Viatrophy (UK) , Sylosis (UK) , ... These gigs were awesome because lots of people showed up to it and went crazy all night long. It was also really awesome to play with bands I really love.

What advise would you give to someone who want to play extreme metal?
Follow your own style and mind. If you do this you will enjoy every single second of it! Also go crazy and support each band you ever see!

Your opinion about Mp3 Trading ?? Now is a Lot of some Blogger ( on web Blog ) Doing that activity. Just Uploading some stuff on sharing provider Hosting, they are Follow it spread the stuff worldwide, are you deal with it?? Give me for your some personal reason.
Well it's true that bands loose money because of that. But to be honnest we'd rather like 100 people downloading our stuff and liking it, than 10 people buying it. MP3 trading is in our eyes also a form of promoting the band, even if we loose money with it.

And How about Free Media sharing Hosting like as myspace.com, Youtube, etc for Death Metal Movement?
These hosting sites are the best invention a band could want. It's really easy to get in contact with other bands, promotors,... This helps bands to promote themselves on an easy way. I think most band coudn't get as known as they are without these hosting sites. We like it!!!

So, you have been on big events in the Deathcore genre, on several big and small festivals. In your opinion, what was your best show, and what the best fest/happening you appeared, and destroyed?
I've been to lots of gigs yet! We have Ieperfest and Groezrock here in Belgium wich are festivals where you can find all kinds of hardcore and only hardcore. Besides that there are also other festivals where you can find hardcore acts. The best gig i ever went to was the first one i ever went to, so the Eastpak Resistance tour! I'll never forget this gig as it was crazy!!!

Do you guys have a hobbies/interests, beside playing Deathcore?
Yeah sure man, we like to go out, snowboard, surf. And i actualy love teaching hahaha ;)

Your Opinion About " The Booming " Deathcore Music style Now??
I think deathcore deserves to be heard worldwide. I understand not everyone likes it but people should get in contact with hit.

Is there any thing you want our readers to know that I didnt ask you or talk about already?
Yeah, we hope to see you guys one day and would like to thank you for the support! Without you guys we are nothing!

Any comments or thoughts you would like to express at this time to those reading this?
Read the past question.

Are you Know some Indonesian Fucking Metal scene there? Some band / Zine / Label / distro or Individual person?
To be honnest, no :s But I really want to get in touch with them!
