Interview With AEONS OF ECLIPSE ( Glasgow, Kentucky, Usa )

Update 18-12-2008 By Herry SIC
Interview Answered By Scott Briggs ( Drums )

Aeons of Eclipse began in August 2004 by drummer Scott Briggs and guitarist Derek Boles initially as a side project from their at the time melodic death metal band with the idea to pursue more extreme styles of metal. In its infant stage, the band’s style was more kin to Black Metal with fast blasting passages and razor sharp tremolo picking. In 2005, the band recorded their first demo entitled, “From Dark Distance” which featured the band’s first vocalist, Ryan Meadows and saw Ryan Morkulven’s first appearance in the band. The demo was lo-fi and very raw, but displays a band with enormous potential. Soon after the demo, the band saw many changes. Ryan Morkulven left the band shortly after its release only to return in 2007, and a revolving door of guitarists came through the band. The band’s sound evolved into a more refined and brutal style bringing in more death metal influences resulting in the sound present today. Ryan Meadows left the band in summer of 2007 as AOE began recording their debut album, “The Hour of Desolation” at Scott Briggs’ home studio, Velocity Studios. AOE held try-outs for the vacant vocalist position where they came upon current vocalist Scott Slinker. After a very impressive audition, the band asked him to join the fold in the fall of the same year and began working earnestly on the recording of the album, making it their top priority. The album was finished in Spring of 2008 and mastered soon after by Colin Davis at Imperial Mastering. The band plans to continue evolving and improving on their sound as well as becoming an even tighter live unit as time goes on.

Hello! who is currently situated in the AEONS OF ECLIPSE camp?
Derek Boles of rhythm guitar/backing vocals, Scott Slinker on
vocals, Ryan Morkulven on lead guitar, and myself(Scott Briggs) on drums/backing vocals.

"The Hour of Desolation" comes like a proof that is still very alive and kicking through all these years. Congratulations! What can you say about the turn-out of the album? How would you compare it to the many past Release that you had?
Our demo, entitled "From Dark Distance" saw mostly local circulation and was on a split with a one-man band from Texas called Assimilation. The music sounded nothing like what we play now. We only pressed a hundred or maybe two copies and still have several copies left. It sucks, I don't even want to give them away much less sell them. The album however while not perfect is a huge step up from the demo. We've been making several good trade deals and have sold several copies through out the world as well as locally.

What were your expectations from the release of the album? And were you able to attain them?
It took us forever to get this album done. I recorded my drum tracks on three separate occasions because of shit not going according to plan. We were all ready to just get it done and out there, but we're pretty happy with the end result. We hoped to simply get our name out there and "exist" outside our local scene, which we are having success at doing.

What were their reactions? And how about your fans, were there any unexpected feedback from them?
The people that dig our music were very pleased with the album, though of course we've received a couple reviews that aren't too positive, but that goes with the territory. Can't please them all.

if choose, where band get Great Review from some Media ?? what Biggest Populer media keep for Giving some Great Review with any Definited that simple Words of View some stuff ??
I'm not sure if I understand the question man, haha. Language barriers...sorry.

For how long did you prepare for the album? are you satisfy worked this material at Scott Briggs’ home studio, Velocity Studios and mastering by Colin Davis at Imperial Mastering?
It took roughly two years to do. I'm personally not satisfied with my work from the mixing/recording aspect as I was completely new to audio engineering when we began recording. I have since gotten better, but have a long was to go before I'm ever on the level of the big name engineers like Andy Sneap and Jens Bogren. Colin did a great job with mastering and was a super cool and helpful dude.

I Know, first time the band’s style was more kin to Black Metal with fast blasting passages and razor sharp tremolo picking, why change into melodic death metal band with the idea to pursue more extreme styles of metal ??
Basically, we became better at playing our individual instruments and wanted to write more complicated music. The earlier stuff was pretty much standard speed picked power chords and occasional death metal riffing with a blast under it and our previous vocalist, Ryan Meadows had more of a raspy mid scream like many black metal bands.

By the way, how did Scott Slinker get into the band After a very impressive audition ? And how was it working with him so far? Please tell us more about his first days in the band. and how are Ryan Meadows for now activity ??
Slinker had hung out with us before at shows and liked our music. He had mentioned that he had been working on his vocals so we decided to call him up and see if we wanted to give it shot. We knew from the first jam he was the guy for the position and he has done a great job ever since. Meadows has an industrial metal project called Distorted Souls that he has been working on with one of his friends for awhile now.

The album is your first release By Independent Release. Are you satisfied with Self released? Do you think that the band wouldn't have to transfer to another label anymore?
We decided to go DIY so we could have complete control over our product. We're considering finding a small label to help us with distribution of music in the future.

Now that I’ve finally read the “ The Hour of Desolation ” lyrics it seems like scott has a big collection of Mythology, Humanity, Death, Violence Book to moved library. Did he show up with the concept and lyrics 100% completed or did any of the other band members have any say in it, perhaps a small correction here or there?
We all took part in the lyrics because we were in a hurry to get it all done. I wrote the lyrics for three song, co-wrote one with Ryan who wrote one by himself as well, Derek wrote one, and Slinker wrote the rest himself.

All this time, you've been touring and sharing the stage with several great bands, too. Which bands did you like best touring with? Which of all your tours is the most unforgettable? Could you share to us some of your best and worst touring experiences?
Haha, we haven't done any touring actually. Three out of four of us are in college and we all have jobs and such so touring isn't an option for us at the moment. We have however shared the stage with some killer bands such as Vital Remains, Skinless, and several others at the Mayhem in May fest held every May in Louisville, Kentucky.

I don't really believe in a best drummer, they're both fucking awesome and have certain qualities the other doesn't.

Slinker is a huge George Fisher fan.

Wish we knew that answer. Have a couple guys interested, but we'll see.

How with Glasgow, Kentucky scene movement For Now?? I hear some band from Kentucky Death metal Compilation, are You have anticipated for kickin ass Future day from All band on this compilation??
Glasgow is pretty much dead as far as extreme metal goes as one would probably expect. It kind of got kicking for a little while, but we lost our main venue and so interest faded. There's some killer bands on that compilation. Kentucky does actually have some kick ass metal that people need to check out!

Would you like to give some advice to the aspiring young bands today, perhaps, share some secrets of your success?
"Play from the fucking heart!"-Bill Hicks(r.i.p.)
