Interview Bareng CYAEGHA ( Virginia - Usa )

The literary works of H.P Lovecraft have inspired many individuals in various different forms of media. Lovecraft's unique ability to tell stories, creates a vast captivating array of both literal and symbolic fears, which enthrall many an imagination. Our band Cyaegha-- pronounced "sigh-AE-guh"--, attempts to recreate the raw sensations of terror and awe from Lovecraft's stories, while satisfying our desire to play brutal death metal. In addition to the literary works of Lovecraft, we also derive inspiration from: Spawn of Possession, Behemoth, Deeds of Flesh, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Necrophagist to name only a few.

Some Godkillz Review

"I'm loving the Cyaegha album - It's just such an incredible piece of polished death metal, from sound to image. A rarity in a scene that's idolising the Cannibal Corpse dustbin sound."
James Hoare - Terrorizer Magazine

"Pummeling, crushing, tank-tread rhythms lock in tightly with unrelenting, menacing, complicated riffs...this Virginian band are a must for fans of complex crushing death."
Jeff Wagner- The End Records

"Cyaegha have expressed themselves well with their album debut which shall cause the hair on your skin to crawl and have your mind telling you to mosh yourself until your covered in sores and blood from head to toe."
Nappy666- Thrash Magazine

"Cyaegha has got a real grip on what death metal should be."
Upchuck Undergrind- Corazine

@ LOST IN CHAOS Mediazine Interview

Hello! who is currently situated in the CYAEGHA camp?
There are four of us: Steven Redmond, Michael Tweed, Mathew Wells, and myself (Daniel Cooley).

About your band name meaning CYAEGHA ??
The name is actually taken from a short story written by Eddy C. Bertin; Cyaegha is a nihilistic massive one-eyed creature with many tentacles.

First time, congratulation for new Cd has be released for Now, and How have people reacted to " Steps of Descent ", and what is the band doing now? are you satisfied with Great Job with your label Canonical Hours Records, that label doing some Great Job for CYAEGHA?
The CD has actually been pretty well received in my opinion, which is really awesome for us—especially since this is our debut album. A lot of people have been saying that our music is your typical death metal, but I believe we offer a slightly different approach to the genre. Currently, we are writing material for our next CD. For the next album, we are expanding on everything from concept to composition, so you can expect that we will definitely try to surpass the effort we presented on our debut. Canonical Hours Records is a great label, and they have helped us out tremendously. Without Canonical Hours, we wouldn’t have been able to record our album, let alone pay for the outstanding artwork done by John Coulthart.

How compare with first release " Demo 05'" after some demo and since 2005 year age in the underground with new Cd "Steps of Descent ', This may some Progressive element music style. More Intense and technical part !!
We have developed as musicians a lot since then. In 2005, we pursued a more grind-core/ thrashy sound; but this was later replaced by a technical death metal style. In addition to the change in music, we lost our original singer in 2007, and added our current singer (Cooley) not long after.

Writing a this new album with the help of Cory Smoot (a.k.a. Flattus Maximus) (Gwar, ex-Narsilion, Locus Factor, Mensrea, ex-Misguided). Thats alright ?
Working with Cory was amazing; when were in the studio, it was a surprisingly relaxing experience. Cory has about 15 years of experience in recording and production, so the process was very smooth.

tell me, How response first time moment " Steps of Descent " Cd released? what CYAEGHA keep some doing Any gig promotion for now?
The response was great; a lot of people actually anticipated our albums release, which is really flattering in my opinion. We currently are just playing shows on the North Eastern coast of the U.S; but eventually, we would like to play shows beyond our borders.

For a Progressive Brutal Death metal album , it's as extremely attitude for some potential members. but you're is keep kickin Style perform just for the best Music extreme creation, What are the conceptual topics and theme(s) of the this album? I see too for some H.P. Lovecraft ... creates a vast captivating array of both literal and symbolic fears, which enthrall many an imagination..
I believe that in extreme metal, the lyrics/concepts must reflect the music they accompany. All of our lyrics are fables written in a narrative style, which are set in the literary world Lovecraft created. Lovecraft’s literary world is so dark and menacing; I think
its great subject-matter for extreme metal. Within each of our songs, there is an underlying message of either religious or moral significance; which are intentionally made ambiguous so the listener can draw a personal connection.

what about lyric song " Ulthar's Decree, Obduction Sapientia, Epiphany of R'lyeh and about Nice title song " Fuck-Start My Dinner " ??
Ulthar’s Decree is actually a synopsis of Lovecraft’s story, “The Cats of Ulthar”; Epiphany of R’lyeh is about a man who sees Cthulhu in his dreams, and wishes to become his servant; Fuck-Start My Dinner is a sickening tale about an aristocratic gentleman whose only excitement is life is murder and cannibalism.

How long did it take to record " Steps of Descent " in the studio? What equipment are you guys using? can you list some specific details about what you use? String sizes, pick size, pickups, etc... Please :)
It took us about a week to record and master the CD. Tweed (bass) uses an Ibanez S-G 500 with an Ampeg SVT 300 and SVT 410. Steve (guitar) uses a Jackson guitar with EMG 81 and 85 pick-ups with a Madison amp. Wells (drums) uses a Pearl Export drum kit with no real preference on drum sticks.

What has influenced each member for their respective position? Are you all keep derive inspiration from: Spawn of Possession, Behemoth, Deeds of Flesh, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Necrophagist to name only a few
It’s hard to really say what has influenced each of us respectively, because inspiration is sporadic, and often goes unnoticed until after you write/compose. The bands that I listed bands above are all favorites of ours, so I would say it is safe to assume we all have received inspiration from these bands at one time or another.

What approach do you take to songwriting and who gets involved? You guys seem to incorporate a plethora of genres and influences into each song!
Writing for us is a process, Steve (guitar) and Wells (drums) will jam on some riffs and create the framework of the song. The song is later completed with the addition of bass and vocals; however, revisions have been noted to happen quite frequently at this point.

@ Please give me for 10 album Brutal Fuckin Death metal list for CYAEGHA lifetime....
Well…it’s hard to really rank albums, so I’ll just list 10 albums we all decided are extremely fucking brutal:

Anata- Under a Stone With No Inscription
Necrophagist- Onset of Putrification
Spawn of Possession- Noctambulant
Nile- Annihilation of the Wicked !T.O.O.H!- Order and Punishment
Decapitated- Nihility
Behemoth- Demigod
Cryptopsy- Blasphemy Made Flesh
Death-Individual Thought Patterns
Old Man’s Child- In Defiance of Existence.

How Your Comment with album maybe compare the Old masterpiece From
>> CRYPTOSPY - The Unspoken King
>> BEHEMOTH - the Apostasy
>> CANNIBAL CORPSE - Kill
>> DEEDS OF FLESH - Crown Of Soul
>> DYING FETUS - War Of Attrition
I’d say that would be fucking awesome if we were compared to those bands and their albums. Since we have all grown up listening to these guys, it would be considered an honor for us to be mentioned along with them. Musically, I can see how someone would make the comparison between our album and the albums mentioned above—after-all, we did take inspiration from these bands; it’s not surprising that our music would sound slightly similar.

Thanks a ton, guys! Last question, and this one is a doozy. What are your views on stem cell research, human cloning, and the "organic computers" that are sure to result from combining "flesh" with "technology"? Flying cars are quickly becoming a reality as well, what do you think of them? keep existing for extreme metal flames forever !!
As we all know, it says in the bible that Jesus was against stem cell research, human cloning, and computers; but he did own a flying car. We don’t have a firm stance against any of these subjects, but we would like to see their applications, and how they could benefit mankind.
